Google Ad's Getting you down? (Keywords not pulling into LM)

Disclaimer: The most important part of dealing with this is getting the client to understand that we are helping with this as an added value, but they will mostly need to check with google OR pay us to run their marketing. We don’t want this to become a can of worms where we become the support team becomes a marketing resource. This is ONLY to help try and pull keywords into the CRM.

Checking Landing Page Parameters:

If a client would like to pull keywords from their Google Ads into their CRM for PPC leads, this is how they do it.

First, they need to create a conversion and send us a gtag/ event snippet. We need to install those codes as outlined in this doc: https://support.realgeeks.com/hc/en-us/articles/360023640314-Adding-Google-Site-Tags

Once that is done, they will need to configure their Google Ad-Word landing pages in a very specific way.

  1. Make sure you are looking at "All Campaigns" and click on "Landing Pages"
  2. Check their landing pages. The final URL MUST contain `&keyword={keyword}`. If they have no other parameters, use `?keyword={keyword}`.
  3. This will pull the relevant keywords from an ad, and display it within the lead manager. (Under the lead in Source Details)

Common Issues:

  1. Landing Pages are missing parameters. This will be the most common issue, as this is internal information that isn’t available elsewhere. This set up mirrors the RG marketing set up that successfully works for our clients.
  2. We are missing the correct code in MCP. Using This Doc confirm that the Gtag/ event snippet are in the right places. If all leads except sellers are working (or vice versa) this is a likely suspect.
  3. Wrong Conversion type. When they set up their conversion, it must be for leads and website sign-ups. This is where the GTag and event snippet is pulled from, so it must be correct.

If you confirm the following and keywords are still not pulling:

  1. We have things correctly set up in MCP
  2. Their conversion is correct
  3. They have the correct parameter in their URL.

It's probably a Google thing. You can let them know this setup works for many of our clients, and there has to be something on Google's end that is preventing it from working.
