Creating Subdomains

In rare instances - agents want subdomains created for reasons like needing one site that has multiple boards in different states that they service or if they have an existing, non-RG site that they want to link to their RG site.

Whatever the case may be, here's some instructions to help figure out what the agent's needs are in getting their subdomain(s) created:

  1. Find out what the subdomain name will be. It can be something like area.domainname.com or agent.domainname.com
  2. Figure out what specific page on their Real Geeks site that the agent wants the subdomain to point to. They can use any page except the homepage.
  3. Skip to step 4 if they plan on keeping their current non-RG site (this is considered IDX only.)

Otherwise, if the agent plans on using our nameservers, you need to let the approvals team know what the subdomain URL is so this can be reflected in the MLS agreement.
  4. Create a new ticket in Zendesk and assign it to Escalations. In the ticket, note the URL(s) for the subdomain(s) you need created and the corresponding RG site pages the subdomain will redirected to.
  5. Once the above is done, agents will need to go into their domain registrar and create a new CNAME record that points to their subdomain for our IDX feed. e.g. - "search.domainhere.com". They should have the value of this CNAME record be "ssl.realgeeks.com".
  6. Then we need to make changes in MCP using these instructions here and replace the domain name with the subdomain name and syncDNS.

You'll want to wait a bit (around 24 hours) to see if the subdomain is redirecting properly but otherwise, that's it!
