Common Facebook Ads Tool Errors (w/ possible solutions)
By Josh Amosson
The Facebook tool is fickle. It is the least consistent system we have because a) it’s connecting with a whole other system and constantly sending data back and forth b) we have to rely on Facebook for half the work c) Facebook.
Due to this, there are many possible errors/solutions that can arise. Here are some common ones we see as well as the recommended troubleshooting steps:
- “My Facebook Ads Tool is not loading” or similarly “This (something) isn’t showing up on my ads tool”
- Usually can be resolved by a cache/cookies clearing. First, try cookies on the site (via the lockbox at the top)
- Then clear cache (you may need to clear it for All Time)
- Can also be an extension/ad blocker causing it
- “My lead router connection is not loading”
- Can be multiple things: caching/cookies, re-integrate the tool
- Check extensions or an ad blocker
- Make sure the lead router is connected at https://leads.realgeeks.com/settings/third_party_integration
- “I can’t see something on the page”
- Check caching/cookies
- Re-integrate the tool
- Look out for extensions and ad blockers. A lot of times, when someone can’t see the Agent/Office ID section or a lead ad form, it’s caused by this.
- “My ad is showing pending on your side but is active on Facebook”
- Hover over the green recycle button in the top-right of the ad
- “Did you change anything on Facebook’s end with your ad?”
- Re-integrate the tool
- Find the ad at https://fb-ad-tool-api.realgeeks.com/admin/ads/ and refresh manually
- “The only option I have is a Post Only”
- Billing is not set up. Go to https://www.facebook.com/adsmanager and then go to billing > payment settings > have them add their info.
- “There are warning messages on Post only and Boosted Post. What are these?”
- Domain Verification! Have them verify their domain by following the instructions here: https://docs.realgeeks.com/fb_domain_verification
- “What is this error message I’m getting via email (facebook lead ads)?”
- Lead ads are not connecting for whatever reason (could be numerous things: password change, update to our end or FB’s end, random error)
- Steps to fix are: go to CRM > Settings > Third Party Integration > Setup next to Facebook Lead Ads > Delete the Integration > Add it back
- “My preview is not working”
- Can vary… most recently I’ve seen that it’s a permission error with the Facebook page.
- Make sure first that the page has all permissions and the person who is running ads is an admin of the page.
- Usually toggling the tool to one Facebook page and back works.
- Other than that, clear cache/cookies/re-integrate.
- Check for Ad Blockers
- “I’m getting this error ‘100 - Only owners of the domain have permission to post’”
- DOMAIN VERIFICATION - This will only popup in posts/boosted posts.
- 99% of the time they thought they verified the domain but forgot the very crucial step 9 of our docs page https://docs.realgeeks.com/fb_domain_verification
- They may also be attached to the wrong page trying to post.
- “It is saying ‘Error Loading Link: The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.’”
- Likely that they are trying to input the wrong link into the wrong ad type (i.e. about page into a property ad or something)
- Evaluate the link, tell them what ad type would work with that
- If the link looks correct, clear cache/cookies/other stuff
- “I used to be able to choose saved audiences and there’s not a section to select those anymore”
- Result of Facebook’s change. These will no longer be available in the tool.
- Basically, this is not an error as Facebook does not allow this for those advertising in housing, employment, or credit.
- “My ad says it’s active but it’s not spending any money”
- Also possible their budget/targeting goals were not high or wide enough for Facebook to think the ad would be successful. If this is the case, Facebook will not spend any of their money cause they pretty much think it’s pointless.
- Re-integrate the tool to see if that refreshes it.
Steps for some common troubleshooting techniques
- How to add yourself to someone’s Facebook ads tool
- Head to https://accounts.realgeeks.com
- Find the site owner and “Login as User”
- Click “Websites” and “Edit/Add Users”
- “Add User” and enter your Real Geeks email
- Give yourself ONLY Facebook admin permissions (if you add yourself to their CRM they will be charged)
- Head over to https://fb.realgeeks.com
- Click the “Sites” dropdown in the top-right and select their site
- You should be able to see all their ads
- Reintegrate the Facebook tool
- Head to https://www.facebook.com/settings
- Select “Business Integrations
- Check “Real Geeks Ads Manager” in the list
- Click “Remove”
- A popup will appear asking if you want to remove all content and posts. Do NOT check this box
- Click “Remove” to confirm
- Head back to the tool and refresh
- Re-integrate lead ads
- Head to the CRM at https://leads.realgeeks.com
- Select ‘Settings’ then “Third Party Integrations”
- Select “Setup” next to Facebook Lead Ads
- Delete the Integration, add it right back
- Note: You may need to open this in an Incognito window or clear the cache to be able to remove it. It can be finicky.
- Clearing Cache/Cookies
- Microsoft Edge: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10607/microsoft-edge-view-delete-browser-history
- Google Chrome: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/32050
- Mozilla Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-clear-firefox-cache
- MacOS Safari: https://support.apple.com/guide/safari/manage-cookies-and-website-data-sfri11471/mac
- You should know how to do this, but if not, here’s some handy links from our macro:
- Cookies: Can be done from the same panel as Cache, or on Chrome/Edge, you just select the lockbox icon in the top-left next to the URL, and click “Cookies” and remove from there.
