Twilio A2P 10DLC Registration for Sole Proprietors

Overview

Many clients that register for A2P messaging do not have a legal business name and business number. Instead, they file their taxes using their own name and identification number. For the purposes of A2P registration, these clients are classified as Sole Proprietorships. There are a few limitations associated with Sole Proprietorship registrations:

  • Must be located in the United States or Canada
  • Only allowed to use one local texting number at a time
  • If a client registered as a sole proprietorship has more than one local texting number associated with their account, only the first number added to their account will be able to deliver texts
  • Must provide additional information to verify their identity as part of the registration process
  • More strict limits on how often they can send texts, see Twilio’s article here for more details

Steps to Register

1. Prepare Client Information

Find the client's submission in Echelon and pull up the website owner's Contact Information in their Accounts page. You will use these to fill out the registration in Twilio.

2. Start the Onboarding Process

Go to Twilio's Subaccount Search page and search for the client's UUID. Once you have the client's subaccount opened, go to Messaging > Regulatory Compliance > Onboarding. To begin the process, select Yes to confirm that you're registering a client located in the United States or Canada.

Select No when asked if the client has a tax ID.

Select Yes and then Continue to confirm your intention to register for a Sole Proprietor package.

Click the Confirm button to verify your selection.

3. Create the Customer Profile

Enter in the client's business information to create the customer profile. On the Business Details page, enter the client's website address for the Profile Name field. Use the email address and phone number provided in the client's contact information on their Account page. Make sure that the phone number is provided in the format seen in the screenshot (no dashes, periods, or other characters should be included). If the email address or phone number are missing from the client's Account page, you may be able to find this information by looking at the website owner's contact information in the client's CRM.

Fill in the Business Address as provided in the client's submission in Echelon. Make sure that the State/Province/Region is shortened to its corresponding two letter abbreviation. If you are registering a Canadian client as a Sole Proprietor, make sure to change the Country at the top of this section.

After making sure that the information is entered correctly, check the box and click Submit for Review.  This will submit the client's Customer Profile.

Once the Customer Profile is done processing, click Continue to move on to creating the Brand.

4. Complete the Brand Submission

Provide the client's first and last name for the Brand Name section. Set the Vertical to Real Estate, and provide the phone number that you pulled from the client's Account page earlier. This will submit the Brand to Twilio for them to review.

Once the Brand has been approved by Twilio, a text will get sent out to the client as shown below. Reach out to the client to let them know that they should expect to receive a text from The Campaign Registry asking them to confirm their intent to register for automated texting. They have 24 hours to respond to this text. If the text expires or if the client did not receive it, you can resend the text using the Resend Verification Message button at the bottom right. If you navigated away from this page, you can come back to resend the verification message by going to Messaging > Regulatory Compliance > Brands.

5. Next Steps

Once the client responds to the verification text, the Brand will be fully approved and verified. At this point, Echelon should automatically kick off the campaign for the final review process. If the campaign does not automatically get started, refer to the A2P/Echelon Best Practices and FAQ article ("How do I start a campaign registration for a client in Echelon?") for details on how to submit the campaign in Echelon. Once the campaign registration is initiated, notify the client that their registration is in progress and that they'll receive an email update once Twilio has an update on their registration.
