Twilio A2P 10DLC How to Provision Toll Free Numbers

Overview

As of January 2024, toll free numbers (TFNs) are no longer available for clients to select when choosing a texting number in the CRM. This is because they tend to have lower delivery rates than local numbers, and they are subject to a similar registration process which means they are no longer functional immediately after being added to a client’s CRM. However, we may need to provide a client with a TFN if they are ineligible for local number registration. Because of their disadvantages, TFNs should only be provided as a workaround if it has been determined that a successful local number registration is not possible for the client.

Since Twilio only allows Sole Proprietor registrations for clients based out of the United States or Canada, any clients outside of the US and CA (including US and CA territories) will need to be assigned a TFN. This article will detail the steps for adding a TFN to a client’s Twilio subaccount and how to start the registration process for the TFN.

Add the TFN in Twilio

1. Find the client’s subaccount by searching the client’s UUID in Twilio’s subaccount . In the subaccount, go to Develop > Phone Numbers > Manage > Active Numbers. On this page, click the Buy a Number button at the top right.

search page

2. Expand the Advanced Search section and set the Number Type to Toll-Free only. Use the Search button to see the list of available TFNs.

3. Click the Buy button next to one of the toll free numbers.

4. To reserve the number, scroll down and check the box and click Buy.

5. Scroll down again and click Verify this Toll-Free Number to continue with preparing the TFN for use.

Submit TFN Verification

1. Provide the client’s business contact information. You can often find this information in the profile information on a client’s accounts.realgeeks.com page.

2. Provide the client’s business address. If the client submitted an A2P registration form, you may be able to find the address in their submission data in Echelon.

3. Fill in each field according to the following template. Replace any instance of SITE with the client’s domain.

4. Once you submit the information for verification, the toll free number that you selected will have a label that says Toll-Free Verification in Progress. If the verification is rejected, it will say Toll Free Verification Rejected. Once the verification has been approved, there will be no label regarding the verification status, as seen in the below screenshot.

5. Once the TFN has been verified, it will not automatically be added to the CRM. Ping Escalations with the phone number that needs to be added to the client’s CRM and they will add the TFN to the CRM manually.
